A wine produced in the provinces of Cosenza and Catanzaro exactly the area that stretches along the right bank of the Savuto river that includes thirteen municipalities in the province of Cosenza and six municipalities in the province of Catanzaro. The story puts this wine among the oldest in Calabria: the Romans called it Sanutum but its recognition is recent (1995). The cultivation of the grapes is made on narrow terraces sloping towards to the bottom of the valley and with walls made of stone blocks. The type of grape is Magliocco, Greek Black, Pecorello and Malvasia. The wine is produced in one variety of red presenting a unique ruby red colour, has a distinctive aroma and dry flavour, it has with a minimum alcohol content of 12%. The denomination DOC is actually obtained after the obligatory 2 years ageing period.
